Patrusim

פתרסים

Genesis 10:14: Patros, sometimes spelled Pathros in English, the southern kingdom of Upper Mitsrayim (Egypt), roughly the area from Thebes to the Kushite (Ethiopian) border, and usually known in English as Nubia. The northern kingdom of Lower Egypt, stretching out of Africa towards the Mediterranean, is called Matsor (מצור) or Mitsrayim (מצרים), and it is this region which is generally referred to in the Tanach.

There is a Yehudit root, PATAR (פתר), which means to "solve" or "interpret", and is specifically used for the interpretation of dreams, an art much famed in Egypt, and at the source of the Yoseph myths. Most likely the root entered the Yehudit language from the Egyptian word Patros, in much the same way that Magician entered the English language from the Persian Magi, or Bungalow from the Bengali word for house.
