A raven or crow, but the root also gives "evening" (erev - ערב), and provides the verbs "to mix", "mingle" and "exchange", leads to Aravah (ערבה), the dry, sterile region of the Negev desert, a "pledge" (Nehemiah 5:3), and the erov (עָרֹב) a species of gadfly mentioned in Psalm 78:45 and 105:31.
Genesis 8:7 has the which raven is sent out by No'ach.
The bird also appears in Isaiah 34:11; Psalm 147:9, Leviticus 11:15 and Deuteronomy 14:14.
Judges 7:25 and 8:3, as well as Psalm 83:12 and Isaiah 10:26 have an Oreb, a prince of the Beney Midyan, partner of the equally mythlogically named Ze'ev ("wolf"); and also the name of a rock beyond the river Yarden (Jordan).
