Genesis 5:9 ff names him as a son of Enosh (אנוש), and the father of Mahalal-El (מהללאל), in the genealogy of Shet (Seth). He lived 910 years (cf 1 Chronicles 1:2).
The root is linked to Kayin (קין/Cain) and the Keynim (Kenites - קינים) rather than Kena'an (Canaan - כנען), though either its place in this list, or its orthography, must be erroneous.
