Chetsron

חצרון

Genesis 46:9 names him as a son of Re'u-Ven (cf Exodus 6:14 and Numbers 26:6).

Genesis 46:12 regards him as a son of Parets (cf Ruth 4:18). No issue there; in one case the grandson, in the other the great-grandson, is given a name that runs through the family.

Joshua 14:3 maps him as a town in Yehudah, in the southern Negev, close to Kadesh Barne'a (Joshua 15:3).

King David had a captain named Chetsray (חצרי), which comes from the same root; in 1 Chronicles 11:37 he is named Chetsro (חצרו), or Hezro, or even Hezor and Hezri, depending upon which English translation you happen upon.

Deuteronomy 2:23 speaks of the Avim (עוים) who inhabited the region between Chatserim (חצרים) and Azah (Gaza) - Chatserim, like Kerayot, simply means "suburbs" or "hamlets" or "villages", from the root CHATSAR, which means "surrounded by a wall". See notes to Chatsar-Mavet (חצרמות).

1 Chronicles 2 provides the full family tree of Chetsron within the tribe of Yehudah.
